Notes, Lessons, and Discoveries: Restoration of a Schaefer
Join us for the inaugural event in the HAF Lecture Series at the Albany Outpost!
We’re kicking off the series with a deep dive into the work of Paul Schaefer, a prolific builder known for crafting over 100 stunning homes in Schenectady County during the 1930s, primarily in Dutch Colonial and Georgian Colonial Revival styles.
Our featured speaker, Adam Williams, will focus on Schaefer’s notable design at 1608 Lexington Parkway, built for Frederick Law and his family. As the home’s fourth owner since 2022, Adam has spent the past three years restoring its original features and salvaging period-appropriate fixtures. His talk will include photographs of the restoration, his work mapping Schaefer’s contributions to the area, and a broader look at Niskayuna’s transformation from farmland to suburb.
Adam holds a PhD in Human Geography from Springfield, Massachusetts, with roots in a 1920s brick colonial home.
