riversweep 2024

WE LOVE MAKING BEER
and protecting our local waterways is critical to our success, as well as to the health of our community.

Join us Saturday May 4th to collect trash along our beloved Betar River Walkway in South Glens Falls. The day’s project is one of the many locations taking place for the 13th annual Riverkeeper Sweep!

Each year, thousands of volunteers take part in 100+ shoreline service projects along the Hudson River from Manhattan to North Creek. By volunteering, we make a strong statement that we care about the health of our local waterways. We all benefit from living near such abundant resources — we must do our part to protect them.

The sweep will end around 12:30 with a celebratory toast. All 21+ volunteers receive a complimentary beer!

FAQs

What time should I get there and where do I park?
Plan to meet at the Common Roots Biergarten at 9:45am to receive your project assignment and cleanup materials. You can park at Common Roots, and then drive/bike/walk down to your assigned section of the path at 10am.

What should I wear/bring?
Volunteers should wear clothes that can get dirty and closed-toe shoes. You might also consider bringing sunscreen, bug spray or tick repellent.

Is this a rain or shine event?
Yes! We will be there regardless of the weather. When in doubt, dress in layers.

Do I need to bring cleanup supplies?
Litter bags and gloves will be provided.

Will there be refreshments served?
No food or drink will be provided during the sweep, so please bring your own water and snacks. After, we will meet up in the Biergarten for a free beer, and food will be available for purchase.

Is this a child-friendly event?
Yes! Children are welcome to participate in the sweep, but must be supervised at all times.

Can I bring my dog?
Yes! Be aware that Betar Byway regulations do require that all pets are leashed.

Do I have to register?
We ask that all volunteers register in advance so that we can plan out service projects and anticipate our supply needs. Thanks!

RiverSweep 2023

Last year we had 75 spirited volunteers who succeeded in removing 500+ pounds of debris from the shores of the Betar Byway! We also refurbished some signage and planted pollinator-friendly perennials. After, we enjoyed beers and camaraderie in the taproom. We’re so grateful to be able to participate in this important annual service project.
